Until recently, I never thought about being green. At work, I would tease my more environmentally-friendly coworkers by throwing my aluminum cans into the garbage when there was a recycling bin just next to it. This would irk them to no end, and it was fun to mercilessly needle them. But at some point, something changed. I woke up. Here's what made it happen.

"A collection of 25 reconstructed houses from the the 1600s up until 1950 around from the whole of Buskerud County. Barns, a forge, storehouses, farmhouses, a sawmill, a water mill and town houses are arranged along the trail in small groupings, like a scene from Norwegian history. A cultural landscape has been formed to present earlier farming methods and building traditions in the county. Many of the buildings are open to the public during the summer months, and, if you are lucky, you can buy old-fashioned sweets in the old village store. Bush rejects emissions caps at climate talksAFP, 28 September 2007 - US President George W. Bush Friday renewed his opposition to mandatory caps on greenhouse gas emissions, insisting the fight against climate change should not block economic growth. "Each nation must decide for itself the right mix of tools and technologies" to fight global warming, he said on the second and final day of a conference of 16 major polluters gathered in Washington.

It is the harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. “In an average year with 12 inches of rainfall, we harvest over 100,000 gallons of rain a year within the soils of our 1/8-acre site and the surrounding public right-of-way. Yet we (household of 3 people, plus many more using our neighborhood laundromat) use less than 20,000 gallons of municipal/well water a year. This way we give back or infiltrate more water into the community watershed than we take/pump out. That’s key to water sustainability. Give back more than you take.”
